In the short period of time from July 1945 to February 1946, the Recovery center took over entire libraries and collections.
But even completely recovered collections were often divided up and given to different institutions. Books of one provenance were thus irretrievably scattered, collections were broken up and reassembled. The consequences for Berlin’s libraries are still noticeable today.
